My mother was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. What natural approach can I use to help my mother’s condition?
According to a recent study published in the Archives of Neurology, a healthy diet may lower levels of brain chemicals linked to Alzheimer’s disease, while an unhealthy diet may raise the level of these chemicals. Essentially, the objective of the study was to compare the effect of a 4-week high saturated fat/high glycemic index (HIGH) diet with a low saturated fat/low glycemic index (LOW) diet on insulin, lipid metabolism, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) markers of Alzheimer’s disease, and cognition for healthy adults and adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI).
The researchers found that administering LOW diet increased beta amyloid concentration, which is contrary to the level found in Alzheimer’s disease. However, the LOW diet did the opposite for healthy adults. The CSF lipoproteins level was increased by the LOW fat diet and decreased by the HIGH fat diet. For the MCI group, CSF insulin level increased with the LOW fat diet while the HIGH fat lowered the CSF insulin in healthy adults.
The researchers concluded that the results suggest that diet may be a powerful environmental factor that modulates Alzheimer’s disease risk through its effect on the central nervous system concentrations of beta amyloid, lipoprotein, oxidative stress, and insulin.
Hippocrates was right when he said “let thy food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food.”
I recommend that you find a whole food nutritionist for your mother and see if she too can benefit from a dietary lifestyle change.

Eczema can be a frustrating and debilitating condition. The topical creams applied to the skin does improve the condition but does not cure it. The unfortunate side effect of these medications is a gradual destruction of your body and health.
You have been lead to believe that the cause is most often a hormone imbalance, and the treatment is simply to restore the balance by taking synthetic hormones. But ask yourself, how did it happen and is there a way to avoid it. If so, is HRT the best choice when it comes to restoring balance? I often hear, “my mother had similar problems, so it must be in the genes.” However, the study of epigenetics refutes this claim.
