To Vaccinate or Not to Vaccinate

My doctor is pressuring me to get the flu vaccine. Do you have any information about the benefits of the flu vaccine?

For someone to proclaim that the flu vaccine is a hoax and that it does not provide any immunity, can be considered blasphemy by some medical physicians. People are aware of some adverse effects caused by vaccinations. However, most of the information regarding side effects/adverse effects is buried in highly scientific journals beyond the reach and understanding of the average person.

Every Fall, the medical community and the media begin their flu vaccination campaign. Newspapers are full of ads encouraging people to roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated in order to avoid getting the flu and its other complications. But, does the vaccine offer protection? Apparently not!

An article published by the Minnesota Public Radio stated that “if the main point of the nation’s influenza vaccination program is to reduce death from the flu, the program failed.”

In addition, Michael Osterholm, the Director of Infectious Diseases and Research Policy stated that “it’s time to be more open about the flu vaccine and its lack of protection for the elderly.” He also added that telling people that the vaccine does not protect them sounds almost irreverent. However, the new research is indisputable.

Dr. Lisa Jackson, a Seattle physician, did extensive research challenging the idea that flu vaccines prevent half of all deaths in the elderly. Dr. Jackson reported that there was no difference in the number of pneumonia deaths between vaccinated and non-vaccinated people.

Recently, the media reported that the flu vaccine may prevent a heart attack. However, Dr. Garatt, a cardiologist at Lenox Hill Hospital stated that “If getting a flu shot could prevent 19%of heart attacks, it would have been noticed before.”

At this time, I highly recommended that you educate yourself before you get the flu vaccine.

Vitamin D And The Flu

Would taking vitamin D be beneficial in preventing the flu?

Vitamin D provides an incredible array of support for systems and functions in your body. Since healthy levels of vitamin D protect and promote so many of your body’s functions, a deficiency may mean that your body lacks the tool it needs to keep you in optimum health.

Just who needs the most vitamin D? Any one with limited to sunlight exposure, overweight people, pregnant women, and dark skinned people. So, if you are one of these groups, you will need vitamin D3 supplementation.

Regarding vitamin D and the flu, a study published on March 10, 2010 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition indicated that vitamin D was extremely effective in halting influenza infection in children – reducing relative infection risk by nearly two-thirds. The results are from a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled study involving 334 children, half of whom were given 1200 International Units of vitamin D3.

Vitamin D3 appears to be 800% more effective than vaccine at preventing influenza infection in children. Vitamin D3 also significantly reduced asthma in children.

Rather than slathering toxic sunscreen on our kids and ourselves, and hiding under hats, and other devices to prevent all of the sun’s rays from striking our bodies, doctors should tell their patients to get lots of sun – just do not burn. Too many people have vitamin D deficiency. It is estimated that eighty five percent of the U.S. population is vitamin D deficient. Many people who have vitamin D deficiency have been linked to cancer, diabetes, kidney and liver disorders, bone disorders, and of course influenza.

It is advisable to have your vitamin D level tested and your blood results will determine your specific needs.
